I know of no part of the plan of salvation that is any harder than this. It is gut-wrenching. But look at the doors that are opened. Humbled, we are ready to come to the foot of Jesus’ cross and say, “What must I do to be saved?” (Acts 16:30).

Freedom from the Fear of Suffering (May 26)
Christ did not die to prevent us from being hurt, but to “release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” So we can drink any cup that life sets before us. Life has higher goals that the mere avoidance of pain.

We’re Hindered If We Try to See Ahead (May 25)
Canaan was different than anything Abraham could have imagined in Ur, but the result of sojourning there was also better than anything he could have enjoyed elsewhere. He “waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.”

In the end, the “law of the farm” always prevails: we will reap as we have sown. There are no tricks, techniques, quick fixes, or personality shortcuts that will give us a good reputation if we haven’t earned one by honest, rightful living.
