The Unseen God Is Not Unreal (April 4)
When we disregard God, He is not diminished. It is still He “to whom we must give account,” and His promises have never failed to be fulfilled when the time was right. So let’s not suppose that a mere “never mind” on our part will make Him disappear.
Kingdom and Church (April 3)
A Christian is a loyal subject in God’s kingdom, joyfully accepting all that Jesus taught about God’s rule in our lives. Jesus Christ did not fail. He began His kingdom, as He said He would. We can accept the gospel — and the kingdom — right now.
A Different Kind of Kingdom (April 2)
Jesus desires to rule in the HEARTS of men and women, no matter where their earthly citizenship is. His kingdom exists wherever there are people who have truly given their hearts to Him, so that their “citizenship is in heaven” (Philippians 3:20).
God Minimized (April 4)
Our malady was well diagnosed by J. B. Phillips’s famous five words: “Your God is too small.” Until we realize that the self-indulgent “worship” that passes for reverence today is an insult to God, it’s not likely that we’ll seek Him as we should.
Idolatry (April 3)
Suppose the “God” we worship is not God as He has revealed Himself to be, but God as we have wrongly conceived Him in our own minds. Are we not worshiping a “creature” of our own making, an idolatry all the more dangerous because it is so subtle?
The Declaration of God (April 2)
If we neglect the declaration of Himself that God has made, we die. Ultimately, there is no alternative. Jesus could not have said it more clearly: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).
Humble Enough to Worship (April 4)
The spirit of worship is selfless wonder at God’s majesty — the smallness of ourselves in His presence. And for sinful beings, it involves repentance. Our hearts may be proud or they may be worshipful, but they can’t be both. Pride kills worship.
Calm Enough to Consider (April 3)
Our adversary specializes in confusion. He loves to prey upon minds that are torn and upset by multiple worries, and he often tempts us when we’re so beset by cares that we act on impulse, failing to consider the consequences of our actions.
Invincible Faith (April 2)
God cannot be defeated, and this truth is attested by everything ever been known about Him. When, in the face of temporary opposition, we choose to believe the ultimate victory will be His, we adopt a faith the devil can do little to vanquish.
Expediency (April 4)
“What is legal?” is not the only question. The fellow who will do “anything the law allows” is not one you want for a next-door neighbor. But our neighbor shouldn’t have that kind of neighbor either! So we’ve always got to ask, “Is this beneficial?”
Peacefulness (April 3)
People with the character trait of peacefulness are often seen as weak rather than strong. But real peacefulness is anything but weak. In fact, conflict is an easy thing compared to constructiveness. Bridges are much easier to blow up than to build.
Anticipation (April 2)
Though we don’t know what tomorrow will bring, there are good reasons to anticipate it. Like the inquisitive children we used to be, we should want to learn more than we know and do more than we’ve done. There’s a bit of the adventurer in all of us.
DFBS 315 – We ought to hold on to what we know God has revealed
The firm foundation of what God has once and for all revealed stands in contrast to all the opinions of human wisdom about what is “necessary.” As for our own judgment, we should have a healthy skepticism about how reliable our own opinions are.
DFBS 314 – At the judgment, eternal life will be given to those who have been faithful to God
May we all eagerly wait for the judgment of Christ, who will appear for our salvation on that day. With Paul (1 Corinthians 16:22 NKJV), may we gladly say, “O Lord, come!” And with Peter (2 Peter 3:12), may we “hasten” the coming of the day of God!
DFBS 313 – Christ’s church is built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets
The rock on which the church rests is the rock-solid truth about Christ. This truth was what Christ revealed to the apostles, individuals designated by Christ to serve as His authoritative spokesmen and representatives. Their teaching is normative.
March 2026
I recently took a few days to assess the work that remains to be done on “Walking in Christ.” I’ve got 139 pages left to write, which sounds like a lot but it’s not nearly as many as the 366 I started with. It’s an exciting time in this this book, and I hope you…
January 2026
With God’s great help, I was able to meet my 2025 writing goals for “Walking in Christ.” I’ll have to keep my head down and stay focused to finish the remaining pages and have the book in your hands by the end of this year, but I believe it is doable.
November 2025
I have put myself on the daily regimen of reading from the Psalms in the morning and evening of each day. I follow a plan that takes me through all 150 of the Psalms every month. This is an ancient practice, and I have benefited from it greatly.
